A local man yesterday faced charges of bribing a public servant on 27 occasions to withhold from actions being taken on offences under the Customs Order.
Magistrate Mohammad Marzuqi bin Sabtu adjourned the case to August 12 to take Reginalo Choong Cheng Jian’s, 34, pleas on the charges for the 27 offences under Section 6(b) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, Chapter 131.
The defendant is alleged to have corruptly given gratification of money ranging from BND50 to BND500 as inducement or reward to a government officer, so as not to take action against the defendant for committing offences under the Customs Order, 2006.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau’s investigations has it that the offences were committed between October 24, 2017 and March 4, 2018.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor Hafizah binti Ahmad’s charges carry penalties of a maximum fine of BND30,000 and seven years’ jail each.
The defendant is represented by Messrs Yusof Halim and Partners.
