Jerudong International School (JIS) has been selected as one of seven schools to join the cohort of the Council of British International Schools (COBIS) Training Schools. The accreditation provides access for teachers to undergo training conducted by the COBIS Training Schools along with the global teaching workforce and provide the school with an opportunity to become a regional hub for hosting, enabling regional professional learning networks as well as a platform to share and model best practices in the internationally recognised teaching network.
The Initial Teacher Training (ITT) will be delivered by all COBIS Training Schools, and they work with a range of ITT providers including COBIS ITT Provider Partners.
COBIS believes that international schools can play a greater role in training teachers in their locality to continue the growth of the global workforce in the teaching profession.
In May 2019, COBIS announced its first cohort of 11 COBIS Training Schools, where they have trained over 280 new teachers with recognised British qualifications from 2017-2020.
JIS Principal Nicholas Sheehan said, “To be selected as a school to deliver training to teachers is an honour and a further international recognition of the excellence of educational provision, not just to our students but also to our teachers.”
