A Filipina claimed trial in the Magistrate’s Court towards charges of cheating and related offences yesterday.

DPP Hajah ‘Adzimah Mukarramah binti Haji Salleh’s charge against Melanie Tomas Marcos, 35, alleges her of having cheated a man in the pretence of having paid for three mobile phones, prompting the man to hand over the phones to her at a residential area in Jalan Mumong, Kuala Belait.

The second charge alleges the defendant of having committed property laundering by selling one of the mobile phones for BND300 to a buyer at a meet-up point in the parking lot of Suri Seri Begawan Hospital in Kuala Belait at 8pm on May 28 and gaining profit from the proceeds of the crime. A third count alleges the defendant of selling the other mobile phone for BND450 to a buyer at a staff house at Jalan Tengah in Kuala Belait at 2pm on May 29 and gaining profit from the proceeds of the crime.

The fourth charge alleges the defendant of having sold the third phone to a buyer for BND650 at a meet-up point at a parking lot at 12.33pm on May 30.

Magistrate Mohammad Marzuqi bin Sabu adjourned the case to June 24 for trial dates to be fixed.
