Extortion case remitted to HC

The Magistrate’s Court yesterday heard a case of extortion and remitted it to be dealt with by the High Court on June 29.

Mohammad Amirul Azem bin Ibrahim, 35, is facing three charges of extortion, by threatening two employees of an ice cream shop on three occasions to extort money.

DPP Hajah Siti Mu’izzah binti Haji Sabli’s charges allege him of threatening a 26-year-old woman by claiming that an ice cream from the shop was found with a cockroach and extorting BND100 from the woman at 9.15pm on June 4 in Setia Kenangan, Kiulap.

The second allegation stated that the defendant went to see the same woman at the shop on June 5 and threatened to expose her claiming that their daughter had to seek medical attention after eating an ice cream which had a cockroach in it and extorted BND150.

At 2.53pm on June 13, the third allegation states, the defendant went to the shop again and threatened a 22-year-old woman with being dismissed from work and extorted BND100 from the victim in exchange to not inform the victim’s boss.

No plea was taken by Acting Senior Magistrate Pengiran Hazirah binti Pengiran Haji Mohd Yusof from the defendant yesterday.
