Elderly woman held for gambling

Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) personnel apprehended a 64-year-old woman suspect involved in four digit lottery gambling at a residence in Kampong Mumong, Belait District.

The suspect is believed to have run the collection of betting slips from lottery buyers at the residence at Jalan Dipa Negara in Kampong Mumong.

The suspect was taken to the Kuala Belait Police Station for further investigation under the Common Gambling Houses Act, Chapter 28, Section 4(c). She faces a fine of up to BND5,000 and three years imprisonment if convicted.

Evidences in the form of money, betting slips and a mobile phone were seized.

During a press conference, Acting Officer-in-Charge of Belait Police District Superintendent of Police Handrie bin Haji Amin said the arrest followed a public tip off and months of investigation. Assistant Crime Officer of the Belait Police District Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Dennie Adli bin Haji Sulaiman said the case will be forwarded to court today.

Gambling activities are strictly prohibited in Brunei Darussalam, and members of the public are urged to report similar activities to the authorities by visiting the nearest police station or calling the police hotline 993.
