A local company failed to prove its innocence in a Magistrate’s Court trial on five charges of failing to file the particulars of its income tax returns.

Two directors of Syarikat Haji Azahari Sdn Bhd, a father and daughter duo, gave their testimonies.

However, Magistrate Pengiran Hazirah binti Pengiran Haji Mohd Yusof found DPP Emily Goh’s case against the company to be proven beyond the court’s reasonable doubt. The prosecution produced two witnesses from the Registrar of Companies and the Revenue Department.

The court convicted the company on all five charges for failing to file the particulars of its income tax returns for the business years ended on December 31, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

The Magistrate’s Court yesterday handed the sentence ordering the company to settle a BND5,000 fine.
