40,000 face masks handed over to government bodies

The Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) in collaboration with the Singapore Red Cross (SRC) Society donated 40,000 face masks to various government agencies in a ceremony at the Bunut Post Office yesterday. The move is to ensure the safety and welfare of the frontliners working to contain the COVID-19 outbreak.

Permanent Secretary (Security, Welfare and Law) at the Ministry of Home Affairs Mohd Amir Hairil bin Haji Mahmud received the donations on behalf of Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, the Chairman of the National Disaster Council.

BDRCS which received the face masks from SRC, collaborated with the National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) for the distribution.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA), Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), Royal Brunei Police Force, Immigration and National Registration Department and the Royal Customs and Excise Department each received 4,000 face masks; while the Fire and Rescue Department and Department of Civil Aviation, 2,000 face masks each; and the Labour Department, Prisons Department, Postal Services Department and NDMC, 1,000 face masks each.

The 4,000 face masks received by MoHA will be distributed to tamu vendors across the four districts.

Another 8,000 face masks will be donated to the Ministry of Health soon, while another 4,000 face masks will be used by BDRCS to conduct its COVID-19 mission throughout the country.
