A 48-year-old uniformed personnel was jailed for 22 months by the Magistrate’s Court last Saturday after he pleaded guilty to offences of theft and property laundering.
DPP Hajah Siti Mu’izzah binti Haji Sabli revealed in court that Shahminan bin Haji Yussuf was at a friend’s flat house in the capital on April 17 when he saw a gold bracelet on the floor belonging to his friend’s wife.
He took it and left.
A few days later, the defendant brought the gold bracelet to pawn it at a goldsmith in Serusop where he was offered BND300. He refused and brought it to another goldsmith in the capital where he was offered BND573.
He took the offer and spent the money.
The victim realised her bracelet was missing and filed a police report which led to the defendant’s arrest.
The recovered bracelet was identified by the victim and was worth BND996.
