Two men charged with possession of firearms

The Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) recently apprehended two men in suspicion of hunting illegally using homemade firearms in two separate locations in the Belait District on May 6.
Both suspects were taken to the Magistrate’s Court where they were charged with the possession of firearms without a licence, under Section 17(1), Chapter 58 of the Arms and Explosive Act.

According to a press statement from the RBPF, 36-year-old foreign national Joenny Tati and 34-year-old Ricky anak Kalong were arrested during a patrol conducted by the Labi Police Station near a sawmill in Mukim Bukit Sawat, following a report on two men being spotted carrying firearms in Labi on April 14.

During investigations, the men admitted to owning firearms for the purpose of hunting animals.

Meanwhile, the defendants have been transported to the Maraburong Prison awaiting further mention of the case.
