The Chief Magistrate yesterday ordered a local trio to settle a BND1,500 fine or risk serving three weeks’ jail in default of payment after they pleaded guilty in court to a charge of stealing food and drinks from a convenience store.

Khairul bin Haji Kula, 38, Aizuddin bin Asman, 19, and Siti Fatimah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, 24, went to Aprina Enterprise Minimart in Kampong Tungku at 10.39am on May 10, where they were caught on CCTV stealing a cooler containing 15 cups of coconut water and a basket containing four sets of takoyaki, which were consignments sent to the shop by a vendor every morning. A police report was lodged, which led to the arrests of the defendants.

Chief Magistrate Pengiran Masni binti Pengiran Haji Bahar also ordered Khairul and Aizuddin to each pay BND25 in compensation to the vendor, and failure to do so would lead to an addition week in jail.
