Running events became the latest sport in Brunei Darussalam to turn to virtual platform following the launch of the Virtual Brunei Marathon 2020 recently.
As athletes across the country are sitting out of competitive events due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Virtual Brunei Marathon followed cycling, netball and combat sports in recent times to make use of technology.
With the virtual marathon currently ongoing until June 11, the latest results have been announced in the 42km.
Nur Hidayah clocked a time of 04:25:16s while Venney bin Suhaili and Rahayu Anina recorded times of 05:26:53s and 05:37:58s, respectively.
The virtual marathon drew favourable response among the running community having reached 100 people signing up for the full marathon category earlier this month.
The other categories being contested are the 21km and 10km events.
According to organisers, the top three runners with the least accumulated time for a maximum of three records will receive limited edition footwear.
Runners who complete the 42km race will also receive finisher’s t-shirt and medal.
The deadline for submission of run results is June 12.
