Suspected puppy killer referred to Psychiatric Department

An elderly man suspected of killing puppies was referred to the Psychiatric Department by the doctors while court adjourned the case to June 20, 2020.

Haji Md Tahir bin Haji Nudin, 80, is alleged to have killed seven puppies by tying them in a rice sack and beating them with the handle of an axe.

The defendant’s alleged act was recorded in two videos that went viral on social media.

According to Deputy Public Prosecutor Dayangku Didi-Nuraza binti Pengiran Haji Abdul Latiff, the incident occurred at a house in Kampong Sungai Orok on the morning of March 31.

The offence carries a penalty of an imprisonment term which may extend to five years, with a caning of not less than two strokes. However, for a man above 50 years, the law exempts the person from being imposed a caning.

Lawyer Rozaiman Abdul Rahman represents the defendant.

Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid presided over the case.
