A smuggling attempt was thwarted in a joint COVID-19 operation conducted by personnel from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) and the Company ‘C’ Police Reserve Unit under the Royal Brunei Police Force, in the border areas of Kuala Lurah.

Assistant Commanding Officer of Company ‘C’ Police Reserve Unit ASP Azhan bin Anuar said that the patrol encountered Malaysian citizen Faisal bin Roslan, 25, in the industrial area of Kampong Kuala Lurah at 2.45am yesterday.

A search of the contents inside his bag revealed five cartons of cigarettes.

The suspect, who is employed as a labourer, was brought to the Limau Manis Police Station for questioning. The case was then transferred to the Royal Customs and Excise Department, for further investigation.

The suspect was also swabbed for a COVID-19 test, and will undergo quarantine for 14 days. In a press statement, the RBPF said that it will continue to conduct joint patrols of the border areas with the RBAF, in a concerted effort to curb smuggling activities and the further spread of COVID-19.
