Six years, four whippings for housebreaking, theft

A local man who pleaded guilty earlier to housebreaking and theft was sentenced to six years’ jail with four whippings in the Intermediate Court yesterday.

Hasmyzan Hamzi bin Haji Hashimi, 33, stole a car from a parking spot at Jalan Jaya Negara in Kuala Belait on September 16, 2019.

The defendant also broke into an office on Jalan Maulana, Kuala Belait sometime in September 2019 for the theft of five television sets.

Sometime between April and May this year, the defendant broke into a house on Jalan Jaya Negara at night, for the theft of an Apple iMac and accessories, along with a tablet, a headset, a decorative telescope, a torch, an LCD monitor and a car key.

Earlier in May, the defendant stole a car battery from a car parked in an area along Jalan Sungai Pandan.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Raihan Nabilah binti Haji Ahmad Ghazali provided these facts before Judge Pengiran Masni binti Pengiran Haji Bahar in court.

The court took into consideration the extensive circumstances and handed the total sentence.
