Public urged to contribute more

With the current donations to the COVID-19 Relief Fund exceeding BND14 million, there is a possibility that the money will be used for the building of a new extension to the National Isolation Centre (NIC).

At a press conference yesterday, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah said, “The decision has yet to be finalised, as a committee level-discussion will need to be carried out with the Ministry of Health (MoH), but it’s certainly a proposal which I will put forward for the committee to consider.

“But of course, now that we have access to the funds, we can still continue to use it for other items, which will again be decided by the committee.”

The minister also said although donations to the relief fund have exceeded BND14 million, the public is still encouraged to contribute, as it requires more funds to fight COVID-19.

“The more we can manage to collect will help the MoH in its funding of the fight against COVID-19,” he added.
