Police on the lookout for ‘old friend’ fraudster

KOTA KINABALU (BERNAMA) – Police have received a total of 11 reports from victims who have allegedly lost RM109,400 to a fraudster claiming to be their ‘old friend’ from March until now, said Kota Kinabalu District Police Chief ACP Habibi Majinji.

He said that based on investigations, the victims had received calls from a person who pretended to be a friend and wanted to borrow some money.

“Losing a handphone and wallet were the reasons given by the suspect… the victims did not contact the suspect after depositing money into the account given.

“All the victims lodged a police report only after realising they had been cheated,” he said in a statement yesterday.
