Online tazkirah on ‘The Sunnah of Eating’

The Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) continued its daily tazkirah as part of its Ramadhan Mubarak Programme yesterday.

The online tazkirah on ‘The Sunnah of Eating’ was delivered by KUPU SB Language Centre Assistant Lecturer Nurul Attieya Batriyah binti Md Salleh.

She highlighted that in the month of Ramadhan, Muslims are obligated to restrain themselves from eating and drinking during fasting hours and briefly explained the definitions of sahur and iftar.

She said, “We are told to reduce the amount of food consumed especially during the month of Ramadhan, and we should have light meals for sahur and iftar.

“Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) reminded Muslims on how to prevent over-eating by portioning our stomach into three parts as narrated by At-Tarmizi.

“Eating heavy meals and over-eating, not only causes discomfort to our stomach, but also halts us from performing prayers immediately or even on time,” she said.

She added that in the month of Ramadhan, Mulsims are encouraged to perform not only five daily prayers, but also Sunnat prayers such as Tarawikh.

“Let us practise the Sunnah of eating, not just in the month of Ramadhan. Surely good deeds that we do continuously in Ramadhan can become habits afterwards, Insya Allah,” she said.
