Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman announced that the National Level Nuzul Al-Quran celebration for 1441 Hijrah will not be held this year.
“By the consent of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the National Level Nuzul Al-Quran celebration for 1441 Hijrah, normally observed at the International Convention Centre in Berakas, will not be held this year. It will be replaced with a special pre-recorded programme for the religious event, which will be aired on Monday, the 17th of Ramadhan, 1441 Hijrah, corresponding to May 11,” he said during a press conference on the latest developments of the COVID-19 situation in the country.
In response to queries on the Sunnat Hari Raya Aidilfitri prayer, Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin said, “It is permitted for families to conduct these prayers in their respective homes, whether individually or in a congregation, in the same manner as the nightly Tarawikh prayers are held by adhering to the guidelines and advice issued by the Ministry of Health (MoH).
“If the prayers are performed in a congregation, then it is Sunnat for a sermon to be read. A short and concise text for the sermon will be provided by the Mosque Affairs Department.”
He also announced that the collection for Zakat Fitrah (tithe paid during Ramadhan) and Zakat Harta (property tithe) would be conducted by appointed amils from the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) at 11.30am-2pm on Mondays and Wednesdays in the main buildings of government ministries, from May 13.
“Let us supplicate and pray to Allah the Almighty that all our efforts be blessed, and let us all cultivate the habit of Tawakkal (trust in Allah the Almighty) after expending our efforts,” said the minister.
