The Ministry of Defence (MinDef) and Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) received a donation of medical equipment from the Ministry of National Defence of the People’s Republic of China, in an effort to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof received the donation on behalf of MinDef and RBAF from Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam Yu Hong, in an official handover ceremony at MinDef yesterday.
The donation of thermal screening equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) arrived at the Air Movement Centre (AMC) of the Royal Brunei Air Force at the Rimba Air Base on an Ilyushin IL-76 military transport aircraft of the People’s Republic of China’s People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) on May 12.
Prior to the official handover ceremony, Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi received a courtesy call from Ambassador Yu Hong at the VIP Lounge of the MinDef.
Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi expressed gratitude to the Government of the People’s Republic of China for the contributions in the fight against COVID-19 and hoped both countries will continue to strengthen their bilateral relations.
The event opened with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and a special Doa for COVID-19. The Doa Peliharakan Sultan dan Negara Brunei Darussalam was read by Head of RBAF Religious Department Commander Haji Ainolnizam bin Haji Ibrahim.
Apart from Brunei Darussalam, the People’s Republic of China’s PLAAF aircraft has been travelling across several ASEAN member states to provide support and assistance in countering COVID-19.
