Minister lauds volunteers

From the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak in the Sultanate, Brunei youth have shown their national spirit in volunteering to help fight the pandemic in the country.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin said this during a press conference held at the Al-‘Afiah Hall of the Ministry of Health (MoH).

One thousand two hundred and forty-seven individuals enrolled under the Youth Volunteer initiative, where they have been assigned work in several places according to tasks from the MoH and National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) with some 150 youth volunteers mobilised to perform full-time daily tasks.

The minister shared that the Ramadhan Drive-Through initiative at the Indoor Stadium of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex area run by volunteers and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) collected over 35,000 basic necessities from the public and have been donated to 1,811 families in all four districts.

“Our target is to give to more than 2,000 families in need by Hari Raya Aidilfitri,” Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan said.

The minister expressed gratitude to youth, volunteers and philanthropists who produced personal protective equipment (PPE) including thousands of face shields, face masks and scrubs needed by the frontliners.
