A domestic helper who pleaded guilty to stealing money from her employer and hid it in her underwear was sentenced to six months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

DPP Syazwani binti Jumat revealed in court that Indonesian Rostini binti Moksin, 23, was only over a month into her job as a maid at the household of a 72-year-old woman in Kampong Pandan, Kuala Belait.

Magistrate Mohammad Marzuqi bin Sabtu further heard from the prosecutor that the defendant learned that her employer had lost BND1,200 on May 7, 2020.

She came across the money rolled and tied with a rubber band inside her employer’s handbag while she was sweeping the floor.

She took the money, counted it and kept it.

Later, she asked her employer to be repatriated.

The employer took the defendant on May 12, 2020 to her sister’s house in Kampong Selayun, Jerudong, the defendant’s agent.

The sisters spoke about the missing money and the defendant’s request to be repatriated.

The agent conducted a body search which led to finding the bundle of cash hidden inside the defendant’s underwear.

She was handed over to the police.
