BMW Asia and QAF Auto Sdn Bhd, the sole importer of BMW and MINI vehicles in the Sultanate, have gone virtual in a bid to wow fans ‘staying at home’ with the first-ever virtual launch event for the latest BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé.

Over 300 viewers tuned in to BMW Brunei’s Facebook Live and YouTube for the premiere of the four-door coupe last night. The number reached up to 600 viewers as of press time.

The video began with an introduction by QAF Auto Sdn Bhd General Manager Alisa Khoo who said the company decided to reach out in a more convenient and creative manner to inform customers and fans of the latest news regarding the brand, despite the ongoing pandemic.

“This unexpected worldwide event has enabled us to be creative in how we deliver you our products and services, while still providing a premium experience,” she said.

Also featured in the eight-minute video was an overview session of the latest Gran Coupé, presented by QAF Auto Sales Manager Vince Soon. He said the first-ever BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé combines the best elements – a high level of everyday practicality, including excellent interior space and a large load compartment.

Adding to its premium aesthetic are larger stablemates – these include features such as four frameless side doors and contoured kidney grille bars with an eye-catching indentation. Most strikingly, the all-new design of the rear lights.

The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé variant offered to the Brunei market is the efficient 1.5L 218i M Sport Package. The driving dynamics in this latest model employs BMW’s sophisticated front-wheel-drive architecture that elevates the driving experience to enviable heights.

It is also equipped with the latest-generation BMW Efficient Dynamics three-cylinder unit family that produces 140hp with a maximum torque output of 220 Nm from 1,480rpm to 4,200rpm. An overboost function briefly generates an extra 10 Nm in fourth gear or higher. The first-ever BMW 218i Gran Coupé accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in 8.7 seconds and goes on to reach a top speed of 215km/h. The engine’s power is relayed via the highly sophisticated seven-speed Steptronic dual-clutch transmission.

Inside design has been squarely focussed on the driver. Apart from the usual buttons on the centre console and steering wheel, other frontline control elements include the iDrive Controller with touchpad and the standard 8.8-inch Control Display with touchscreen functionality.

Vince told viewers that the car is the perfect choice for customers for whom sportiness, cutting-edge connectivity, and ample onboard space rank highly.

The dealership also announced that they will only be accepting online purchase of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé on the official website
