Keep surroundings clean to be free from flies, villagers told

As a follow up to the meeting on Thursday on fly infestation reported by the public in several villages in the vicinity of Mukim Pengkalan Batu, officials from the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT), Ministry of Health (MoH) and Brunei-Muara District Office under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) participated in a working visit on Saturday to take a closer look at the villagers’ problems.

The delegation led by Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Haji Apong visited three villages – Kampong Masin, Kampong Pengkalan Batu/Junjungan and Kampong Panchor/Batong to check reports on fly infestation.

During the visit, insecticides were sprayed in the surrounding areas of several houses. The minister also spoke to several village heads in the mukim.

Maintaining cleanliness in the surrounding areas of houses to prevent flies from breeding in the area was stressed. The minister visited the chicken farm in Tanah Tuah Agriculture Development Area in Kulapis di Mukim Pengkalan Batu.

Meanwhile, the Brunei-Muara District Office issued five compound fines to several companies during the visit for violating the Minor Offence Act Chapter 30 which is failing to maintain cleanliness and disposing of rubbish in public areas.

The companies are Wei Aik Enterprise issued with a BND200 compound fine, Suha Enterprise issued with a BND500 compound fine, Al Muhammadiyah was levied with BND500 compound fine, Abdul Hossan levied with a BND500 compound fine and Hua Ho Agriculture Farm slapped with a BND500 compound fine.

Village head of Kampong Limau Manis Yang Berhormat Haji Mohimin bin Haji Johari @ Jahari, Acting Permanent Secretary at the MPRT Hajah Tutiaty binti Haji Abdul Wahab as well as officials from the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood, MoH and Brunei-Muara District Office also participated in the working visit.
