Festive cheer for orphans, families

Donations continue to flow in the final week of Ramadhan.

Orphans from 23 families residing in Kampong Jerudong received donations yesterday in a ceremony at the home of Kampong Jerudong A Acting Village Head Haji Kharul Azmi bin Haji Lakat.

Haji Kharul Azmi, Mukim Jerudong Consultative Council members and volunteers handed out the donations to share the blessings and lift the orphans’ spirits in the run-up to Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

The donations were chipped in by non-government organisations (NGOs) as well as from Pehin Orang Kaya Lela Pahlawan Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Mohd Jaafar bin Haji Abdul Aziz and family.Another donation targetting those from the Asnaf group will be carried out in the coming week.

Meanwhile, 12 orphans and six underprivileged families from Kampong Kapok also received donations during a ceremony at the residence of Kampong Kapok Acting Village Head Pengiran Haji Ibrahim bin Pengiran Haji Timbang.

Kampong Kapok Village Consultative Council (MPK) Advisor Haji Awang Marali bin Haji Ahmad handed over the donations, which came in the form of food essentials and cash contributed by companies and individuals.

The ceremony also saw the presentation of gifts to MPK members for carrying out their duties during Ramadhan. The MPK organises the project annually to help ease the burdens faced by recipients in preparing for the festivities.

Additionally, the Alumni of the International Rabitah Al-Azhar University Brunei Darussalam (WAAG) contributed towards underprivileged families registered under the Brunei Islamic Religious Council.

The Khayrat Azhari programme saw teams distributing contributions to 15 recipients in the Brunei-Muara District, and five recipients each from the Belait, Tutong and Temburong districts. The contribution also brought smiles to foreign workers and overseas students.

WAAG executive members handed out the donations simultaneously across all four districts.

The contributions were handed over by Arif Haji Johar bin Haji Muhammad in the Brunei-Muara District; WAAG Ra’es Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Yussof in the Belait District; Treasurer Haji Abdul Aziz bin Haji Akup in the Tutong District; and Deputy Ra’es II Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal in the Temburong District.

The programme aims to inculcate the spirit of giving among WAAG members and aid the community with religious and welfare activities.
