Fast disinfection work with ultraviolet light machines

The Ministry of Health (MoH) has deployed ultraviolet light machine to carry out disinfection of the ICU areas at the National Isolation Centre (NIC) in the Tutong District. This has greatly cut down the time taken to disinfect an entire room, taking only 15 minutes.

Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar explained this at the question and answer session yesterday.

“We have four to five ultraviolet light machines. On top of physical cleaning, using the ultraviolet light machine has proven to be efficient in terms of turnover of rooms.

“Normally, it will take a few hours to a day to completely clean the room. Therefore, patients can utilise the room again after cleaning and disinfecting is done in just half an hour to one hour,” Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham said. Ultraviolet light can be harmful to humans, and when the machine is switched on, no one should be in the room. “We do not use hand held ultraviolet light devices to carry out disinfection,” the minister said, noting that they endanger those in a room.
