As Brunei experiences first-hand reactivated cases still positive for COVID-19 after recovered patients return home like in Korea and several other countries, it was found that the reactivated cases are more towards shedding the virus, said Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar.
He said those who live in the same household as the reactivated cases have not been infected.
As the minister explained during a press conference, the test kit for the COVID-19 cannot determine whether the virus is dead or alive as it only detects the presence of the virus.
Tests in Brunei being very sensitive can detect up to 100 copies of the virus, and if it is under 100,000 it is usually seen as non-infectious.
“Family members don’t need to be worried, but of course monitoring will be carried out. If they are sick they should let us know,” Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham said. “In Korea, only the sick are swabbed while in Brunei, swab tests are done on everyone.”
The minister said out of the 22 reactivated cases, only one patient showed symptoms.
