COVID-19 PPE equipment donated

A handover ceremony of COVID-19 PPE Donation Drive between Safety, Health and Environment National Authority (SHENA) and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS)was held at the Youth Volunteers of Pusat Bahagia yesterday.

Permanent Secretary (Energy) at the Ministry of Energy (ME) and Haji Azhar bin Haji Yahya presented the donations to Deputy Permanent Secretary of the MCYS Colonel (Rtd) Pengiran Haji Maiddin bin Pengiran Haji Said.

A presentation of certificates of appreciation by Haji Azhar to Brunei Press Sdn Bhd General Manager Hazizah Osman for the sponsorship towards the COVID-19 PPE Donation Drive was held.

Guests were invited for a tour of the Operation Centre and briefed on how the Operation Centre carries out tasks throughout the COVID-19 outbreak.

The PPE were gathered through a donation drive organised by SHENA in collaboration with MCYS and Youth Volunteers in conjunction with the World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2020 from April 30 to May 13.

The donations were dropped off at two drive-by points at the Indoor Stadium, Berakas in the Brunei-Muara District and Pusat Belia, Kuala Belait in the Belait District.

The donations are to assist efforts in protecting frontliners, including the Sukarelawan Belia, village heads and their teams as well as frontliners involved in the cleaning and sanitisation of public areas such as mosques, markets and cemeteries.

The donations were contributed by several companies, organisations and the public during the two-week donation drive and comprised 11,536 surgical/N95 masks, 4,304 surgical gloves, 3,000 disposable aprons, 1,090 shoe covers, 600 face shields, 579 hand hygiene products, 100 pairs of rubber boots, 78 disposable coveralls/gowns, 56 pairs of eye protection and 15 sets of scrubs. The items are based on guidelines from the Ministry of Health.

The donation drive was also supported by the Borneo Bulletin and Media Permata as print and digital media partners.
