Charity flows as Ramadhan draws to a close

Contributions continued to flow as the Ramadhan month draws to a close.

Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah Fund for Orphans (DANA) received BND45,218 in donations from 54 Fuzhou Shiyyi Association (Brunei) members yesterday during a ceremony at Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex in the capital.

Minister of Defence II and Chairman of the DANA Board of Trustees Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof received the donations from 15 association members representing their companies.

Association President Jackson Ting Jack Hing handed over the first mock cheque, followed by other members. The minister later presented certificates of appreciation to the donors.

Permanent Secretary (Planning, Land Use and Environment) at the Ministry of Development cum Acting Chief Executive Officer of DANA Dr Nor Imtihan binti Haji Abdul Razak also attended.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) and its departments presented donations to 32 orphans under the MCYS and its departments.

In view of the COVID-19 situation, the donation presentation was executed differently this year.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Permanent Secretary (Administration, Finance and Estate) at the MCYS Pengiran Mohd Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud, Permanent Secretary at the MCYS Pengiran Haji Mohd Hasnan bin Pengiran Haji Ali Hassan and Deputy Permanent Secretary (Youth and Sports) at the MCYS Colonel (Rtd) Pengiran Haji Maiddin bin Pengiran Haji Said handed over the donations at the homes of the orphans.

The event is held every Ramadhan to foster ties among the families of MCYS officials.

Also stepping forward to make a difference this Ramadhan were Kampong Bunut Mosque Takmir Committee members and mosque youth group members who organised the Sedekah Belia project to distribute over 600 food packs to the public.

Organised for the third time this year, the project is part of efforts to foster a culture of ‘giving’ to gain multiple rewards from Allah the Almighty during Ramadhan.

The food pack distribution at the Kampong Bunut Mosque parking area employed a drive-thru concept, with Kampong Bunut Perpindahan Acting Village Head cum Kampong Bunut Mosque Takmir Committee Advisor Haji Durahim bin Hassan assisting with the distribution.

Meanwhile, 23 orphans from Kampong Mulaut received donations from village residents and mosque Takmir committee members through a drive-thru process set up at the Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Mateen Mosque in Kampong Mulaut. The donations are to help reduce their burden in the run up to Hari Raya.

Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Mateen Mosque Officer cum Chairman of the mosque Takmir committee Haji Khairul Nizam bin Haji Mohd Said recited a Doa Selamat prior to the donation handover.

Executive committee members of the Kampong Mulaut Village Consultative Council and Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Mateen Mosque Takmir Committee also attended.
