Brunei Darussalam’s boxing talent Muhd ‘Irfan bin Haji Abdul Razak has signed a deal with legendary trainer Jeff Mayweather from the Mayweather boxing family, in promising signs towards making his professional debut.
The signing will see the former American professional boxer assist Muhd ‘Irfan’s journey towards launching a professional boxing career.
Muhd ‘Irfan also signed with promoter Marcus Callahan of MCB International, who will also assist him progress his boxing career forward.
This will set the pathway for ‘Irfan to become the first modern Bruneian professional boxer and the ultimate goal of becoming a champion.
The contract covers the management of Muhd ‘Irfan’s career and promotion as a fighter, as well as training with Jeff Mayweather.
Muhd Irfan, who is known by his moniker ‘The Brawler of Brunei’, said of the signing, “I want to be a good example for my country and see where this journey will take me.
“I have always dreamed of being a champion and this is my opportunity to shine.”
The signing was made possible when Jeff Mayweather and his team were looking to unearth new boxing talents outside of the United States.
According to Muhd ‘Irfan, their goal is to identify and train boxers to participate in national and international boxing events. They plan to create disciplined boxers who will bring honour to their country and become role models.
Mayweather’s team found that Brunei does not have any professional boxing champions, which led to the discovery of Muhd ‘Irfan.
“They heard about me from different sources and decided to reach out. I had a great conversation with Jeff and one of the other managers,” Muhd ‘Irfan said.
Currently, plans are ongoing to start training and set up Muhd Irfan’s professional debut.

While in Brunei, Mayweather also plans to train other amateur boxers who share the same dreams. “I feel this is a great opportunity for myself and for our country,” ‘Irfan said.
