A number of Bruneian students opted to stay overseas on their own will amid the worldwide COVID-19 outbreak.

Minister of Education Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman said during the press conference yesterday that majority of the students are those sitting for their final year. “The Ministry is still in close communication with them and has asked them to sign a declaration letter on their willingness to do so. On scholarship, we will take into account of the current COVID-19 situation not only for the final year students but also for other students.

“The Scholarship Department of the Ministry of Education is conducting a survey on this matter. Majority of the students who have returned home are doing online learning, or taking online examination or assessed through online continuous assessment as instructed by their universities,” the minister said.

Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah added, “We are still assessing the situation in their place of study.”
