A number of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as well as private entrepreneurs welcomed the Ministry of Finance and Economy initiative through its Treasury Department on the 50 per cent discount on glutinous rice (beras pulut) from April 8.

The announcement on the 50 per cent discount for MSMEs and private entrepreneurs engaged in the preparation and sale of traditional cakes using beras pulut for a month was made by Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah during the press conference on April 7. Speaking to the Bulletin, Shariana binti Haji Zainal who has a stall at the Pasar Pelbagai Barangan Gadong expressed her excitement following the news.

“I’ve been selling pulut panggang for about 10 years and this year the business hasn’t been good because of the pandemic. We used to sell here every day, but now we only come three times a week,” said Shariana.

“I’m thankful, and I hope that this pandemic will end soon.”

Meanwhile, Norsah binti Saringan who also has a stall in Gadong, said the initiative is great for those in the business, and she looks forward to buying in bulk in preparation for Ramadhan.
