Mosques’ closure extended for another week

The temporary closure of mosques, suraus and religious halls around the country has been extended for another week.

Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman said with the consent of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Ministry of Religious Affairs will continue the temporary closure of mosques, suraus and religious halls around the country for another week starting today until May 4 in view of concerns over the dangers of COVID-19 infection in the country.

The decision was made at the Special Meeting of the Brunei Islamic Religious Council last Thursday, based on a statement from the Ministry of Health on the need to continue measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 outbreak and it is guided by Syarak Law as stated in State Mufti decree number 02/2020.
