MUIB issues Zakat payment guidelines in view of COVID-19

The Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) issued guidelines for the collection of Zakat Harta (property tithe) and Zakat Fitrah (tithe paid in the month of Ramadhan) at mosques, suraus, and religious halls for the month of Ramadhan, 1441 Hijrah as the nation is facing the COVID-19 outbreak.

Zakat Fitrah and Zakat Harta will be received at the mosque foyer or veranda. The prayer hall will not be used for receiving Zakat Fitrah and Zakat Harta.

For mosques where there is no veranda or sufficient space, Zakat Fitrah and Zakat Harta will be received outside the mosque area in camps, MUIB said.

Zakat Fitrah and Zakat Harta collection during the month of Ramadhan is from 8.30am to 11.00am and 1.00pm to 3.00pm.

Social distancing during the receipt of Zakat Fitrah and Zakat Harta will be carried out in accordance to the Ministry of Health’s (MoH) advice. Body temperature checks will be carried out before entering the payment space where there will also be the provision of hand sanitiser.
