Local jailed for theft

A local produced before the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate’s Court yesterday for theft was sentenced to six months’ jail at Maraburong Prison from April 22.

The cases involved theft of a car battery, mobile battery, equipment (spanner and socket) and a wooden cage with a bird found in a garage and outside a house compound. Both incidents were reported in Kampong Telisai, Tutong. CCTV footage obtained from the victim led to the suspect being taken into custody.

Assistant Officer-in-Charge of Tutong Police Station Probation Inspector Khairul Haq bin Haji Juma explained that the 32-year-old suspect, Mohammad Amirul Alif bin Ali who is unemployed, admitted the offence and was charged under Section 379 of the Criminal Code involving theft.
