Philippine national Keister Jay Dela Cerna was sentenced to a year’s imprisonment at the Maraburong Prison and three strokes of whipping by the Bandar Magistrate’s Court after he pleaded guilty to three counts of charges under Section 506 of Penal Code Chapter 22, Section 29(1) Public Order Act and Section 15(1) Immigration Act yesterday.
According to a statement from the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF), police personnel from the Berakas Police Station detained the suspect after he caused disturbances using a knife at a commercial area of Kampong Serusop on March 20, 2020.
Initial investigations found that the suspect had gone to his girlfriend’s workplace at a healthcare centre in a rage, holding a knife in his left hand. He forcibly pulled his girlfriend hand, forcing her to go home.
Further investigations revealed the suspect is unemployed, and has stayed in the country since 2015.
The RBPF reminded the public not to act recklessly, without thinking of the consequences.
