The Ministry of Education (MoE) in collaboration with the Special Education Unit has developed the home learning package with guidelines for students with special needs.
This was highlighted by Minister of Education Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman in response to a question on home learning for special needs students during the press conference yesterday.
According to the minister, special needs teachers have also contacted parents regarding the matter. The minister added that their learning apart from academic, daily life skills can also be conducted at home with their parents’ supervision.
“It is flexible, students can learn any time. The Special Education Unit has prepared several technologies that can be ulitised to help with the students’ learning,” he said.
Meanwhile, hands on training for special needs students from NGOs such as the Society for the Management of Autism Related issues in Training, Education and Resources (SMARTER) Brunei and Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam will be limited in view of the COVID-19 outbreak situation, according to the minister.
“Hands on learning will resume once everything is back to normal. We are making modifications on things that they can learn and we have made some changes …. hopefully for our mutual benefits,” the minister said.
