Filipino pleads not guilty to NIC theft

A 40 year-old Filipino accused of stealing valuable items and cash from a patient at the National Isolation Centre (NIC) in Tutong pleaded not guilty to the charge of of an offence under section 380A of the Penal Code, Chapter 22, theft in a protected place, in the Intermediate Court today.

According to the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) in a statement, personnel from the Tutong Police Station arrested the suspect after reviewing CCTV footages that showed him frequently checking bins at the decontamination area of the NIC and swapping the bins, where one of the bins contained a stolen item which was a backpack owned by one of the patients at the centre.
