A large contribution of 200,000 face masks was made by Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) companies in the Sultanate yesterday, with the first half of the contribution by Amann Shipping Group Sdn Bhd (ASG), and the rest by Guangxi Ruian Logistics (Group) Co Ltd (Ruian) from the People’s Republic of China.
Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah said that ASG is one of the joint-venture shipping companies in the Sultanate, while Ruian has yet to establish a joint-venture in Brunei (still in discussion), but has already shown its generosity by helping the country with a contribution of 100,000 face masks.
“Insya Allah it looks like there will be a few more contributions, but we have already seen many FDIs contributing either financially or with medical equipment and the likes,” said the minister.
“We are very thankful for their contributions because when some of the countries were affected by COVID-19, we also gave them moral support, and now with cases in Brunei, they are returning that gesture.”
Meanwhile, Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar said the Brunei Government, especially the Ministry of Health (MoH), appreciates and welcomes all contributions by FDIs and the public.
“We also recently saw Jerudong International School (JIS) contributing face shields, which is very useful especially for frontliners in Tutong and those carrying out the swab tests as it is one of the most difficult parts of the personal protective equipment (PPE) to obtain,” he said.
Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham commended JIS for its efforts in creating the well-thought out and designed face shields. The 100 recyclable face shields were designed for reuse and are not easily damaged.
