A lot of patients suffering from diabetes and cardiovascular disease improve their health especially their immune system by practising fasting during Ramadhan and by performing intermittent fasting or Puasa Sunat during the month of Syawal and on Mondays and Thursdays (during normal day), scientific studies have revealed.
This was shared by Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar during a press conference at the Ministry of Health’s (MoH) Al-‘Afiah Hall yesterday when asked on how one’s immune system can reduce the rate of recovery in COVID-19 patients and how fasting can enhance the body’s immunity.
“As Muslims, we are privileged by the coming of this holy month. In addition, we also need to follow guidelines such as by taking food in moderation, performing prayer first before taking food to break fast, taking more vegetables and less carbohydrates. It will benefit us,” the minister said.
