Elderly local charged with killing puppies

Prosecutors produced an 80-year-old local man in the Magistrate’s Court today to face a charge of committing mischief on seven puppies under Section 428 of the Penal Code.

No plea is taken from Haji Md Tahir bin Haji Nudin at this point who is alleged to have killed seven puppies by beating them up several times using the handle of an axe while they were in a tied-up rice sack. The defendant’s allleged act was recorded in two videos that went viral on social media recently.

According to Deputy Public Prosecutor Dayangku Didi-Nuraza Pengiran Abdul Latiff, the incident occured on the morning of March 31, 2020 at a house in Kampong Sungai Orok.

The offence carries a penalty of an imprisonment term which may extend to 5 years with whipping of not less than 2 strokes. However, for a man above 50 years of age, the law exempts the person from being imposed whipping.
