Donations flow in for COVID-19 fight

Members of the Indian business community in the country presented a BND100,000 donation to the COVID-19 Relief Fund during a ceremony yesterday.

The group was led by President of the Indian Chamber of Commerce in Brunei Darussalam and Director of Nazmi Textile Nazeer Ahmed Zackiriah who contributed BND30,000.

Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar and Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health Haji Abdul Manap bin Othman received the donations.

Managing Director of Samima Sdn Bhd Haji Hidayatullah bin Haji Tajudeen presented BND15,000 while Directors of Teeyem Majeed Group (TM Majeed, Orbit and Atlanta Supermarkets and Daya Supermart) Anwar Ali and Ferose Khan presented BND10,000.

Jamal Mohamed on behalf of Bismi’s Director Mohamed Abdulla Inamulla @ Yunus presented BND10,000 to the minister.

Managing Director of Sifana Sdn Bhd Haji Sulaiman Ayub Khan, Director of Raimmar Sdn Bhd Haji Ahmad bin Wahab, Director of Faize Restaurant and Department Store Mohamed Jerbin Jahith bin Haji Abdul Munaff, Director of Sitthi Trading Sdn Bhd Shajahan Ameer Ali, Manager of Syarikat Veenas Gul Jamnu Punjabi and Yassin Mustahafa Badusha of Perusahaan Yazid Bersaudara Sdn Bhd contributed BND5,000 each. Meanwhile, Syarikat Sameer Restoran represented by Shameem Ahmad contributed BND3,000, Ameen Associates represented by Haji Kamaluddin presented BND1,500 and Director of JPRI Sdn Bhd Jayakumar presented BND500 to the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Health.

Nazeer said the group voluntary efforts showed the spirit of unity in doing their part for the betterment of the society.

“We must all come forward and assist the Ministry of Health (MoH) to tackle the outbreak and flatten the curve,” he added.

Association of Wives of Cabinet Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Permanent Secretaries and Deputy Permanent Secretaries

The Association of Wives of Cabinet Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Permanent Secretaries and Deputy Permanent Secretaries and its affiliated members presented BND12,600 to the COVID-19 Relief Fund yesterday.

Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar received the donation from Datin Hajah Kalshom binti Haji Suhaili, spouse of the Minister of Defence II during a ceremony at the Al-‘Afiah Hall of the Ministry of Health.

Datin Dr Hajah Noraslinah binti Haji Ramlee, spouse of the Minister of Health and Hajah Normah binti Haji Ahmad as the group secretariat representative were also present.

The contribution was made as part of the group effort in supporting the government, particularly the Ministry of Health, in tackling the COVID-19 outbreak.

ESCA Marine & Engineering Sdn Bhd

Staff members of ESCA Marine & Engineering Sdn Bhd led by its Managing Director Masrhiem bin Taufik presented food items and drinks to volunteers at the Suri Seri Begawan Hospital, Kuala Belait as part of its corporate social responsibility initiative amid the COVID-19 outbreak in the country.

Masrhiem said the donation was made as a response to a call to donate to hospitals across the country.

“We have been supplying food since last week to encourage and support the frontliners in the country,” he said.

The food was bought from local restaurants and vendors to support the local economy and community.

The company also presented similar donations to the Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah (PMMPMHAMB) Hospital in Tutong.

Speech and Language Therapist and Group Leader C for the hospital’s Emergency Operation Centre Meela Adreeyana binti Haji Aliuddin expressed her gratitude on behalf of the volunteers.

She also called for more essential items’ donation and encouraged youth to provide help and volunteer at the hospital.

CIC Environmental Services, Megalift, Cathay Scientific Instrument Company & Kemuda

The COVID-19 Relief Fund received BND73,000 yesterday contributed by private companies in an effort to help the country fight the crisis.

The donations were contributed by CIC Environmental Services Sdn Bhd (CIC), Megalift Sdn Bhd, Cathay Scientific Instrument Company Sdn Bhd and Kemuda Institute Sdn Bhd.

CIC CEO Shaiful Arief bin Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Razak and Megalift Managing Director Haji Muhammad Daud bin Haji Bair presented the donation to Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar.

The donation was meant to assist the Ministry of Health (MoH) to purchase medical equipment and other essential items for containing the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak in the country.

The CIC and Megalift also pledged commitment to extend their services to support the government for the next six months, including the safe collection, transportation and disposal of COVID-19 medical waste.

The proper collection and disposal of the masks, gloves and other single-use personal protective equipment during this pandemic will help prevent the spread of the virus.

“I would like to express my gratitude to the frontliners and their endless work in combating the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are experiencing a difficult time, both around the world and in Brunei. CIC is made up of Brunei’s own local talent and would like to ensure that we all come together to support each other in this time of crisis,” said Shaiful Arief.

CIC is a locally established and licensed waste management company under the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRE) while Megalift is a locally established transportation and logistic services in Brunei Darussalam.
