Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar has announced that all recovered patients will undergo three swab tests before they can be discharged from the National Isolation Centre (NIC).

“The standard operating procedures (SOPs) carried out by the Ministry of Health (MoH) is quite strict,” he said at the press conference yesterday.

“In some countries, only one test is conducted for COVID-19 patients, but here in Brunei, the Ministry of Health prescribes two swab tests to be taken during a 24-hour interval.

“However, since the occurrence of these relapsed cases, our current SOP is to conduct three swab tests before discharging the patients from the NIC.”

The minister added that even after registering three negative results, the patients would still have to undergo 14 days of self-isolation, instead of seven.

“They also will be subjected to another test (a fourth one) on their 11th day of self isolation, to further ensure that they are recovering,” he said.

“This measure may be uncomfortable for them, but in view of our close-knit family units, we need to be very careful.”
