The Brunei Darussalam Senior Citizens (Wargamas) Association launched the recitation of Khatam Al-Quran in honour of the 74th birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam at the Suri Seri Begawan Raja Pengiran Anak Damit Mosque in Kampong Madang yesterday.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin was the guest of honour. The minister led the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah which marked the launch of the programme followed with the recitation of Al-Quran verses of the first five pages of Juzuk 1.
The Doa Selamat and Doa Peliharakan Sultan dan Negara Brunei Darussalam was recited by the Imam of the mosque.
More than 1,000 participated in the Al-Quran recitation. They were divided into 10 male Halaqah and 46 female Halawah to guide them.
Chairman of the event Haji Abdul Hakim bin Haji Mohd Yassin expressed gratitude to the Wargamas Association for organising the programme and senior citizens across Brunei for participating to gain multiple blessings and rewards from Allah the Almighty by reciting Al-Quran.
The Khatam Al-Quran ceremony is scheduled to take place in August.
