Tutong begin National Basketball League title defence with win

The much-anticipated 5.11 National Basketball League tipped off at the Brunei Basketball Association (BBA) Basketball Court at Batu Bersurat last night.

Permanent Secretary (Administration, Finance and Estate) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Pengiran Mohammad Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud officiated the opening of the league.

The 5.11 National League is a close collaboration among Brunei Basketball Association, Belait District Basketball Association and Tutong Basketball and will feature both men’s and women’s categories.

Six teams will participate in the men’s category namely Brunei-Muara ‘A’, Brunei-Muara ‘B’, Temburong, Tutong, Belait and Seria while four teams will participate in the women’s category namely Brunei-Muara, Temburong, Tutong and Belait.

The National Basketball League is sponsored by Core-Lee Enterprise, official distributor of 5.11 apparel in Brunei with You-C1000 as the official sports drink.

BBA will continue to commit and ensure that more tournaments will be held to grow home-grown talents and someday in the hopes of participating in an international league.

Yesterday also witnessed reigning holders Tutong begin their title defence with a 71- 39 win over Kuala Belait ‘B’ in the men’s category.

Zainul Hussin led the scoring for a strong Tutong team with 16 points while team captain Khoo Chin Kai contributed 14 points and Onn Jen Hao getting 13 points on the board.
