Safety first when it comes to first aid, minister says

Upon seeing a person who has fainted or collapsed in public, members of the public should first protect themselves before attempting to tend to the stranger.

This was said by Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar in response to a question raised by the media on the recommended procedures to assist a person in need.

He reiterated that people should prioritise their own safety and make sure they wear protective gear when out in public, especially amid the current spread of COVID-19 in the country.

The minister said even paramedics don protective gear first before carrying out any medical procedures on a patient, especially in high-risk situations.

“Once you feel protected, then go ahead and perform lifesaving procedures on the person,” he said.
