Pengiran Haji Redzaini bin Pengiran Haji Ahmad has set a record as the first person to complete a solo motorcycle ride from tip to tip across Borneo, in less than 24 hours.

He returned to a hero’s welcome yesterday at the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex in the capital, where Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MYCS) Pengiran Mohd Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud presented him with a badge to mark the completion of Saddlesore 2020.

Saddle Sore is a challenge ride certified by a Borneo-based endurance motorcycling organisation, which requires the rider to complete a 1,600km journey within 24 hours.

Pengiran Haji Redzaini said, “Alhamdulillah, the weather was on my side, and I managed to complete the journey without any serious issues. I thank all those who prayed for my safe return. This has been my toughest endurance solo ride attempt so far, and I am blessed to have so much support.”

To complete his latest record, he chose the recently opened Pan-Borneo Highway in Teluk Melano, Sarawak, as his starting point. Setting off at 12.01am on March 1, he reached the Tip of Borneo in Kudat, Sabah, at around 10pm the next day.

Pengiran Haji Redzaini is no stranger to long-distance solo riding, having represented Brunei in regional and international biking festivals, in his capacity as President of Darussalam Motorcycle Association (PEMODA).

Apart from setting a new record, Pengiran Haji Redzaini was also promoting the 21st Borneo Island International Big Bike Festival 2020, which will be be held in Kuala Belait on June 26-28.
