Rataie Primary School wins poetry contest

Students from Rataie Primary School of Mukim Bokok, Temburong emerged champion of the ‘Permata Nilam Mutiara’ Poetry Recital competition for primary school nationwide at the Book Festival at the Indoor Stadium yesterday.

School teacher Biebie Yanti binti Abdul Ghani said, “This is the first time that we participated in such competition and I feel blessed that our team won first place.”

“Participating in the competition helped us to understand more about the traditional poetry which is a heritage of Brunei Darussalam. We were exposed to the Brunei Darussalam poetry during the two-week training.”

Second place went to Al-Falaah School, Mulaut branch, Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah School won third place and St Andrew’s School, fourth.

A total of 16 primary schools took part in the competition.

It aimed to expose students to poetry recital skills as well as to strengthen the command of Malay Language.

The guest of honour, Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Putera Maharaja Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Ghani bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Dewa Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Rahim presented the prizes.
