PSJD emerged inaugural winners of the nine-a-side Veteran Football Championship organised by the Setia Kampong ‘A’ Football Association after they edged AH United 2-1 in the final at the Sungai Kebun Sports Complex yesterday.
The Tutong outfit raced to a 2-0 lead through Haji Sharifu Bahrin bin Haji Zainal and Nuradi bin Tujoh before AH United pulled one back through Fazri bin Jumat.
En route to the knock-out stages, PSJD emerged as Group ‘B’ runners-up behind TJ FT while AH United marched to the next round with their unbeaten record intact as Group ‘C’ winners.
The tournament marked the first activity since the establishment of the Setia Kampong ‘A’ Football Association this year and aimed to foster closer ties among both veteran and young players.
With the tournament limited to 24 teams only, each team must include two players who are aged 50 years and above, five players aged between 45 and 49 and two players aged between 40 and 44.
The tournament was conducted based on local rules commonly used for nine-a-side football in the country.
A total of 18 teams divided into three groups competed, with the top two teams advancing into the next round.
