The special assembly held in conjunction with Brunei Darussalam’s 36th National Day aimed to shower gratitude to Allah the Almighty for the blessings to the country and its people in terms of independence and well-being as well as enhancing faith and the spirit of cooperation in achieving Brunei Vision 2035, Ra’es of Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) Dr Haji Adanan bin Haji Basar said.
He made these comments in his welcome address at the special assembly organised by the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) for its members.
The event was held at the multi-purpose hall of Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Girls Arabic Religious Secondary School yesterday.
The highlight of the ceremony was a special lecture on Maqasid Syariah by KUPU SB Director of Core Knowledge Centre, Dr Haji Noralizam bin Haji Aliakbar who spoke on the definition of Maqasid and Syariah.
He explained the benefits in understanding Maqasid Syariah which are giving out hukum, tackling current issues due to the changing world which continues to grow and develop, and further convince that Islam was introduced for the benefit of all humans in the world and the hereafter.
Dr Haji Noralizam also explained on failures in understanding Maqasid.
The ceremony saw several performances including a poetry performance titled Lewat Gerbang Kemerdekaan by Nurul Amalyna binti Abdul Majid, Syair Asli Rajang Hari – Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien by Amal Nazirah binti Haji Asmat as well as a pantomime performance by officers and religious teachers from the Islamic Studies Department.
Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman was the guest of honour.
Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar; Acting Permanent Secretary at the MoRA Haji Muhammad Serudin bin Haji Timbang; and directors, officers and staff of the ministry were also present.
