The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) through the Community Development Department (JAPEM) introduced a new initiative in which recipients of the old age pension scheme can receive their monthly allowance with ease through their personal bank accounts starting April.

According to JAPEM, the new intitiative is one of the efforts of the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam to increase efficiency in service delivery to its clients.

Starting from April 2020, the payment method will be offered as an additional option for recipients of old age pension scheme who receive cash through penghulus or village heads, or receive their monthly allowances through bank that will be credited to their personal accounts in three selected local banks – Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD), Baiduri Bank Berhad or Perbadanan Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei (TAIB).

The option of receiving payment through the bank is one of the integrated steps by MCYS, with Ministry of Finance and Economy (MoFE), Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) and banking institutions to enable easier access.

The new initiative is in line with the preparation and coordination to support the use of the National Welfare System (SKN), through integration with the Treasury Accounting and Financial Information System (TAFIS).

Recipients of the scheme who choose payment methods through banks are required to fill in an application form available at all branches of JAPEM nationwide or through their respective penghulus and village heads.

Each applicant is subjected to the guideline for old age pension payment through bank that is provided by the MCYS, MoFE as well as banking institutions, under the Old Age and Disability Pensions Act (Chapter 18) including terms and conditions imposed by the existing banking institutions.
